George D. Oberle III

Welcome

This is my professional site. The goal is to include information related to my scholarship and teaching.

I am a Librarian and Historian. My research interests include political and intellectual history. My current book project is tentatively titled Forge of Learning: Institutions of Knowledge in the Early Republic and is in progress.

I developed an interest on the impact of slavery and racism in Virginia, Maryland, and the District of Columbia after working on the Enslaved Children of George Mason project. I worked with my colleagues on the Memorial to the Enslaved People of George Mason between 2017-2022. My research interests in this work will allow me to explore the long impact of slavery by examining the legacy of George Mason and his family from the seventeenth century to the twentieth. I am also interested in the history of George Mason College and University in the northern Virginia region.
